Mining Insurance

Mining is critical to enabling the global energy transition and drive towards net zero targets. Our specialist Mining team provides bespoke property insurance solutions based on our in-depth technical understanding of the specific risks and exposures present at each of our mining insured’s operations.

We underwrite worldwide with a focus on Africa, Australia, and the Americas, and cover businesses operating within the full spectrum of the mining industry across all metals and minerals and all types of mining be it underground, surface mining, or in-situ.

We work with our Inigo colleagues in complementary lines of business such as D&O, Political Violence and Terrorism, General Liability, and Cyber, to provide a full range of insurance solutions to our clients.

Intrinsic to our underwriting capabilities is an unrivalled claims experience which sits at the centre of our Insurance and Reinsurance expertise.

I joined Inigo in June 2023 to develop a specialist mining property book.  I had done exactly the same thing at the Hardy Syndicate in 2017 but wanted to do so at Inigo because I bought into the unique culture, innovation, and fresh thinking that is exemplified here.  I have specialised in underwriting mining property and construction lines for the last 12 years and prior to that had been involved in heavy industry, mostly international business. With a background in chemical engineering, I started in insurance as a risk engineer which enabled me to travel to some of the most insalubrious but interesting parts of the world. Having spent some time as a loss adjuster in the noughties, I have found Underwriting to be the capturer of my heart. In addition to my duties as an underwriter at Inigo, I am the chairman of the Mining Insurance and Risk Association, a global organisation of individuals and companies involved in mining, risk, and insurance.

I work as an Underwriter in the specialist mining team. My London Market insurance career started at Canopius. From there I spent six years writing a global mining, power and heavy industry portfolio at Starr Companies. Most recently I spent a year at a Lloyd’s start-up writing technical lines which gave me the taste for the enjoyment involved with developing a new book. I like working with mining clients to build long-term relationships and to find unique solutions to their varying and unique insurance needs. Outside of work I enjoy most sports and was on the founding committee of the Lloyd’s Netball Club.
