Marine
Liability Insurance

Marine losses and accidents can severely impact lives, the environment, revenue and reputation. We protect those involved in the maritime industry at sea and onshore, including shipowners, operators and charterers.

We also support shoreside industries from port, terminal and marine operators to shipbuilders and repairers, protect ports property, and can cover niche areas such as Certificate of Financial Responsibility providers.

Covering sole traders to multinational corporations worldwide, our Marine Liability insurance cover is available on a direct and reinsurance basis, and can be tailored to your particular needs.

Intrinsic to our underwriting capabilities is an unrivalled claims experience which sits at the centre of our Insurance and Reinsurance expertise.

James Power

HEAD OF MARINE AND ENERGY LIABILITY

London, United Kingdom

I head up Marine and Energy Liabilities. For Marine, we insure everything from shipowners and shipyards to maritime employees. On the energy side, we protect contractors and operators working on projects ranging from refineries to offshore energy construction. For leisure, I enjoy walks in Ashdown Forest with my son and miniature labradoodle. I play tennis, golf and enjoy family foreign holidays. I have supported Everton FC through thick and thin for over 45 years.

I underwrite within Marine & Energy, ensuring global commodities can safely travel the world, and homes and industry get the energy needed. We love looking at emerging risks and are excited to see where the energy transition takes us. I’m a nature-lover, particularly birds. I’ve visited the Amazon jungle, Central American cloud forests and Borneo wilds. A highlight was sighting the Three-wattled bellbird, vulnerable to extinction and one of the loudest birds on the planet.

I’m an Assistant Underwriter with the Marine and Energy Liability Team. My main roles are reviewing incoming accounts and providing support on them where I can. I also help with a variety of other tasks, such as modelling our different accounts, attending client meetings and keeping track of our renewals. Outside of work, I love playing tennis with friends and entering local tournaments.
